Meditations On Charity
Up until last year I had not been involved in any kind of charity. To be frank my philosophy was that before helping others one should help oneself. As the time went by I did notice that many of my business partners were doing some kind of social work. I started paying attention. If the people I held in utmost respect considered that worth doing than there was a possibility that there was something in it.
It happened that I was honored to be invited on the board of Latvian Chapter of RMHC. I agreed at first without much knowledge of the organization and having a vague idea as to where this initiative is going to lead. Our goal was ambitious. We set out to instantiate in Latvia Care Mobile program. The essence of the Care Mobile program is a vehicle equipped to render much need medical help in remote areas of the country. This would become possible only with the full and energetic support of the Ronald McDonald Charity House Global, Latvian government and Latvian business community. Slowly, gradually making one step at a time we started gaining momentum. We have not achieved our goal yet. Not yet, but it looks like the initiative had been infused with the life of its own.
Skeptical of charity initially, I then realized that it is never too late to give and it is never too early. Regardless how difficult the position we believe we are in right now there is always somebody who will deem our position to be a blessing. It goes for all ages and for all career levels. These days especially, when the society is struck with unforeseen financial issues the ones who really suffer today are those who were just barely making the ends meet yesterday. Never too late, Never too early. It is my motto these days.
These are hard times for everyone. Some have to cut costs to make payroll, some have to cancel the skiing trips and house renovations. Also there are some who are canceling the medical care for their kids, those who painfully have to count pennies to bring food to the family table. Those of us who are lucked into, gifted, blessed or anyhow in any position to stretch a tiny bit of help should do so. Especially these days.

The goal of the www.my-art-gallery.net is to provide a venue for young creative people to establish themselves in the world of art. It is so that the efforts associated with running an art exhibition are often prohibitive for the underprivileged young artists, people with special needs and those living in remote areas. By using the internet technology we are able to electronically exhibit the works of our artists to the world. The project is run by Diatom Enterprises (www.diatomenterprises.com) – a company specializing in the custom software development. Diatom is using its technical expertise to make sure the works of underprivileged artists have a chance to become known.
This project is charity oriented. From each sale 70% of the proceeding go to the artist. 50% of the Diatom profit is contributed to Latvian Chapter of RMHC..

The 1st Annual Riga Santa’s Fun Run was a great success!
More than 200 people turned out on the first sunny day in a long time to don Santa’s red and white and run through the streets of Old Riga. The spirit was high and it’s safe to say “a good time was had by all!”
With this kind of community support, the Care Mobile dream will soon be a reality!
